What is a venous bypass?

The bypass veins are used to redirect blood flow in the body from one vein to another. The most common surgery of the bypass vein is for a portal vein. This vein moves blood from the stomach to the liver. This type of surgery is only performed to release pressure on the portal vein, causing internal bleeding.

The portal vein is the main vein responsible for the regular movement of the high blood volume. Operation of the bypass vein is a permanent solution of uncontrolled internal bleeding caused by the portal hypertension. Portal hypertension occurs when the liver is unable to absorb blood flow from the intestines. The pressure in the vein increases because the body is looking for other ways to direct blood flow. The most common reasons for liver problems are liver failure and cirrhosis.

In the surgery of a vein bypass, the vein that controls blood from the intestines to the liver, separated and transported to the main venous system. Bathing the liver allows the body to move blood without creating excessive pressure on the veins. Portal hypertension and the resulting internal bleedingIt is found in approximately 40% of patients with cirrhosis and are eventually fatal in half. The bypass surgery in the portal is performed in surviving patients.

There are four types of bypassing procedures: Portacaval Shunting, Splenorenal Shunting, Mesocaval Shunting and Transvenos Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunting (TIPS). All four operations are performed under a general anesthetist is a hospital. It is a major surgery and the risk to the patient is relatively high because they are usually in poor health.

Portacaval shunting takes blood from the portal vein to the lower vena Cava. This is the most common method of a vein's bypass. Lower Vena Cava is the main vein that points blood to the heart. In splenorenal shift, the kidney or kidney vein is used on Attach Spenic vein. This vein is part of a larger portal vein and is large enough to suit blood flow.

Shunting Mesocaval uses another part of the portaThe lifetime, called the superior mesenteric vein to connect with the lower vena cava. All three methods require a large cut of patients' abdominal abdomen and have a lengthy surgical recovery time. Many patients after this type of operation require extensive support.

Transvenos Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) uses a specially designed device and an X -ray camera to create a short circuit using a real liver. The stent or artificial vein is used to connect a portal vein with another vein. This procedure requires only a small nickname in the skin and has a faster recovery time.
