What is an intrauterine device?
Intrauterine device (IUD) concerns one or two different small pieces of equipment that are located in the uterus by a doctor for contraception. Most often, IUD is a small copper that is shaped as T. It is one of the most effective methods of contraception, for those who tolerate it, and pregnancy pregnancy by stimulating mucus production in the cervix and uterus that forms a barrier for sperm passage. A similar product that is newer is a small device that excludes progestin. This may be distinguished from IUD by name and called intrauterine system or intrauterine contraception (IUC).
different types of IUD have existed for decades. Some early types were not effective, and especially in the age of 20. The Dalko Shield led to a very high number of lawsuits, as this caused a significant risk of developing inflammatory pelvic disease (PID). The number of litigation of Dalkon Shield has forced many people from intrauterine equipment, but current types do not pose similar risks. TwoMore common available types are Copper Paragard® and Progestin Relaxing Mirena®.
Inserting intrauterine equipment must be performed by a doctor. Part of the insertion process, especially "sounding" or uterine measurement, is very unpleasant. The discomfort is quickly over, although some women experience convulsions or breakthrough bleeding. Doctors often recommend using IUD in both forms for women who have undergone pregnancy. There is a better chance that the device will be excluded in women who have not done so.
both forms of intrauterine devices have a high efficiency rating, comparable or better than even a contraceptive pill of some types, about 97-99.5% effective. It protects against sexually transmitted diseases and is therefore the most suitable for women in commi. IUD problems that may vary depending on the type.
copper IUD can cause significant increase in volume and length of periods and breakthroughé bleeding. IUD can cause ovarian cysts, especially in the first few months after advertising. There is a slight risk of developing PID, chances of exclusion of equipment or small possibilities that IUD uterus. IUC can also cause pid, be excluded or performed. In both IUD types there is a very little chance of pregnancy and there is a more probability of ectopic pregnancy.
Thehormonal intrauterine device is associated with reduced menstrual bleeding. Progestin cannot be used by everyone and is not recommended for smokers over 35 years or people at risk of heart attack or stroke. A common complaint about Mirena® is that it can cause mood changes. In addition, it has been shown that progestin reduces sexual interest. The location of both types tends to bexpensive and not all insurance companies cover these costs.
The benefits of this form of contraception include its general easy use. Once women are in place, they only need to check the chains that hang up in the vagina once a monthIn order to verify the birth rate check, it works. Most women tolerate intrauterine devices quite well, and if they change plans and want to conceive, the device can be quickly removed. Another advantage is the time for which this contraception can be used for up to 10 years for copper IUD.
