What Is Diffuse Scleroderma?
Diffuse scleroderma is a type of systemic scleroderma. It is more common, showing symmetrical limbs, facial skin tightening, hardening, and thickening, which can affect the proximal extremities, neck, and trunk, as well as visceral damage such as the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys, lungs, and heart. This type is characterized by rapid onset, rapid progress of skin damage, early appearance of visceral damage, and poor prognosis; laboratory tests show positive anti-Scl-70 antibodies, and anti-centromere antibodies can also be positive.
