What is Megastructura in architecture?

Megastructura, a concept that first entered the architectural discussion at the end of the 50th and 60th years, has an evolving definition. The basic, modern definition is that megastructure is simply exceptionally large, artificial, self -supporting structure. Although the real urban megaTRUCTURES is still found only in sci-fi, according to this definition, a number of existing structures, including the Great Wall of China and some extremely large skyscrapers, can be calculated. Smaller, prefabricated units could be added to the roofing megastructures suitable for the specific needs of its passengers. The adaptability of megastructures would make it possible to go through a “hardware” of everyday life, such as tools, in easily accessible lines.

Some architects, such as Reyner Banham, saw megastructure as a brintering the vision of urban planners and architects. His book Megastructura: City Futures of the recent past was a basic guide to the movement. Planners and architects as you think planning shouldBeing perceived on a much larger scale and megastructures could provide real solutions for the decomposition and disorganized, inefficient cities.

Today, megastructures follow less utopian ideals and are built on a smaller scale than some of the previous designs of megastructures. However, megaTRUCTURE is usually large, artificial, separate structure or building. The definition often includes structures made of many smaller structures grouped together, a city located in one structure or bridge. There are no definitive requirements for a structure that would be considered a megtructure; Just that it is unique in its size and engineering.

In order to increase the number of megastructures built, public interest has triggered television programs that will explore these amazing structures. Profilized megastructures include U.S.S. Ronald Reagan, Sears Tower, English channel tunnel (or "chunnel") and bridge Akashi KaiKyo in Japan. The Great Wall of China is also considered to be a megaphuthum and stretches almost 4,000 miles (6 352 km) long.

USA Ronald Reagan, called a "floating city", can take place for three months of supplies and serve over 18,000 meals a day. Chunnel is 32 miles (50 km) long - with 25 (40 km) of them under water. The Sears tower is another famous megtructura, which stands high at 1,454 feet (443 m).

While human imagination is limited only by contemporary technical and construction technology, fantasy megastructures abound in literature, playing and film. The star of death in a series of films Star Wars is a well -known fictitious megastructuraure, and many others are in games like and various sci -fi stories. Many conceptual megastructures such as cosmic elevators and space stations can sometimes become a reality.
