What Is a Tappet?
The tappet is the main component of the valve distribution mechanism. It is the mechanism that uses the oil pressure to transmit the force on the eccentric on the camshaft to the valve.

- Introduction
- The purpose of this thing is simple. Because our automotive engine valves are subject to wear, and there is a problem of thermal expansion and contraction, if mechanical transmission is used, it is easy to cause the valve to be tightly sealed or the valve sound is abnormal (loud), which affects the power and comfort of the car . To open the valve with the pressure of the engine oil, it has a lot to do with the viscosity and temperature of the engine oil. Generally, the engine oil temperature has not reached the normal value just after starting, which makes the viscosity not suitable for hydraulic tappets. At normal operating values, the tightness of the hydraulic tappet is reduced, resulting in a large valve clearance and a squeaking noise. After the car engine reaches normal operating temperature, the valve sound will decrease until there is no sound. If you can still hear a loud valve sound, you should check whether the hydraulic lifter is worn and needs to be replaced. Because of its wear and tear, the tightness of the oil inside is lost, and the gap between the valve and the valve tempo is too large, and there is a noise. By the way: the valve clearance of an engine without a tappet is always there, and it can only change slightly when it is cold and hot. The tappet has no valve clearance when the engine is working normally or its clearance is not enough for us to hear the sound.
