- Also called intermittent suture, it is most commonly used. Each stitch is knotted, and the knot sutures are not connected to each other, such as skin, subcutaneous, fascia and other tissues. [1]
- For suture of skin, subcutaneous fascia, mucosa, blood vessels, nerves, etc. The distance between the suture and the wound margin is determined by the thickness of the tissue, such as 3 to 5 mm for small animals and 8 to 12 mm for large animals when skin is sutured. The distance between sutures is determined according to the tension of the wound edge, usually between 5 and 15 mm, so that the wound edge is well aligned.
- Pros and cons of butt stitching:
- * Advantages: simple and rapid operation; even if individual sutures are disconnected, it will not cause the entire wound to crack; it has little effect on the blood circulation of the wound margin and is conducive to wound healing; if the wound is infected, it is convenient to remove some sutures.
- * Disadvantages: Consuming more sutures and taking time.
