What is gossypiboma?

When there is a patient who has undergone surgery, the result of Gossypiboma leaves a fungus or other surgical equipment. These formations may not occur only a few years later, when ignoring pain or infection is impossible to ignore. Although some properties of this disorder are the same as all others, doctors must consider each case individually on the basis of previous surgery of each patient.

Although this phenomenon is rare, medical literature has seen many cases of gossypiboma, complete with radiological images. Post-operative patient-monthly or even years after surgery-he can complain about localized pain in the surgical site, to see a cyst that grows size, or even suffers from symptoms of internal infection. Symptoms of internal infection are usually high fever and other symptoms similar to flu like pain and lethargy.

Depending on the type of surgery, gossypiboma could reveal in any number of other symptomsOMS. For example, surgery involving digestive tract could lead to intestinal obstruction that causes nausea, vomiting, weight loss and pain. On the other hand, the lungs will remain growth that would cause serious respiratory problems.

gossypiboma may usually be identified by X -ray, but subsequent surgery is most often needed to remove unwelcome surgical instrument. Although mushrooms seem to be the most common material that has remained behind, several other cases included tools such as bone curets, pliers, gauze, scissors, nerve hooks and tissue clamps that can be easily overlooked if it is not careful. According to the 2008 Ministry of Health and Human Services report, about 5,500 surgical interventions were left about one detained foreign object. This statistics were obtained after an analysis of almost 200 000 densets.

When a surgical tool remainsBackward, body reactions are often encapsulated in material. Calcification and accumulation of fat can form around mass that may eventually appear as a cyst or tumor. What the doctor initially believes that an abnormal tissue mass on X -ray could actually be the remains of surgery, which had been considered a success before.

radiological tests can easily identify certain tools such as pliers or nervous hooks, but gauze or fungus could be so encapsulated in fat that it seems to be a potentially malignant tumor. Most manufacturers of these items in 2011 include radio fibers that can detect radiologists. Surgeons and their assistants often calculate tools at the end of the procedure before closing the patient. Some technologies, such as barcoding and radiofrequency detection detection, allow surgeons to use the scanner to find out whether something remains inside.
