What is a century plant?
If there was ever a plant that had an identity crisis, it would be agave Americana . This plant, which is commonly known as the nickname "Century Plant", is also known as the wrong name American Aloe. The plants of the century come from Mexico, but are used as an ornamental plant around the world and have become naturalized and grow wild in many places. However, the plant does not live for a century or lasts 100 years to bloom.
The leaves of the century of the century spread from the central core, reminiscent of the rosette. A plant that actually lasts an average of 15 years does not look like power until it comes time to bloom. Large stem, 15 to 40 feet (4.572 to 12.192 meters) tall and as thick as the tree trunk, shoots from the center of the plant and produces hundreds of grouped white or yellow flowers. The flowers remain at the race of the century about a month before the stem begins to dry and die, killing the rest of the plan with it.
In their native Mexico, stems are cut to allow a sweet sap called aguamiel or "honey water". This sap is then used in the production of a beverage called pulque . Because pulque cannot be stored and the taste can be changed by many different factors very quickly, it is considered to be a regional specialty. Pulque, however, is also used in the production of an alcoholic beverage called Mezcal . While Agave Americana comes from the same family as the plant that produces tequila, this liqueur is not produced by any product or by -product of the century.
Most plant species produce underground shoots, of which several other plants produce. These shoots almost always hatch and grow into maturity and then repeat the life cycle. The botanists also came up with hybrids to create several different varieties of the plant that looks and behaves differently, but the basic life cycle remains the same.
in pThe following times of Century's attention caught attention to the media attention due to Agava syrup, sometimes called Agave Nectar. It is sold as a healthy substitute for sugar. Other parts of the plant, including fibrous leaves and stopwatch, are used in the production of rope and clothing, although these uses have become more rare because synthetic alternatives were available. The leaves of the plant of the century can also be baked as a source of food, although it is considered to be the taste of many who have tried it.
