What is Tiffin?

The word "tiffin" is of Indian origin and is used to describe the type of food. The exact meal that is discussed differs depending on the regional dialect, but usually Tiffin is a light food consumed during the day. This word appears in Indian English, spoken throughout India, except for many other languages. "Tiffin" is derived from a word that means "to sip", perhaps refers to the light nature of food by distinguishing them from "sip". The Tiffin offer is a routine part of the hospitality in many homes because food offers are considered polite. The food offered may vary, but they tend to be easily prepared and light in nature, with people taking several things and leaving the rest for the household. Parents also usually pack a tiffin snack for their children, use that has been creeping into some other communities in the world where parents can refer to refreshments like Tiffin.

When traveling in South India, it is good to realize the fact that hospitality is taken very seriously. Tiffine refusal can be considered an insult because it suggests that you think the host hospitality is inappropriate, so let the household visit small snacks to taste the offers. Eating all offered meals can also be rough, as the host may feel more obliged to earn more, even if they have to use food set aside for dinner.

In other parts of India, Tiffin is lunch. Traditionally, the tiffin is wrapped in stacked metal boxes that combine and create a "tiffin box". Workers can take the Tiffin box to work, or family members can prepare a hot lunch and deliver it to the Tiffin box during lunch. Some restaurants can advertise "Tiffin Specials" or assure people that "Tiffin Wallah" or "Box Carrier" will cost to bring delivery orders for busy workers.

as with other EnglishIndian words sometimes appear in British English, which reflects the fact that India is a former British colony. People who traveled to India or people with family history in India can use this term, as well as people living in Indian neighborhoods. In Britain, "Tiffin" is generally used in the sense of light lunch food.
