What was the Cambrian period?
The
Cambrian period is the main division of geological time, reaching about 542 to 488 million years ago. It is the first period in the wider paleozoic era. Cambrian is characterized by the occurrence of a wide range of complex, fossilizable multicellular organisms. Previously, multicellular organisms were more like simple colonies (fungi and medusoids) rather than differentiated animals.
In the period lasting about 10-20 million years during the beginning of the Cambrian period, the event called Cambrian Explosion, which concerned the sudden emergence of numerous preserved animal fossils. During the Cambrian explosion, all the main types of body appeared. Cambrian named the periodis after Cambria, an older name for Wales, where the first Cambrian fossils were found. For a long time, it was assumed that the Cambrian period signaled the emergence of multicellular general fossils, but the discoveries of the so -called Edicarani Biota have shown over the past fifty years that there were multicellular organisms before Cambrian. But they were not by farAnd as complicated as their Cambrian Descendants, which have only a weak connection. It was originally assumed that there were no soil plants during the Cambrian period, but molecular dating showed it as false, and in fact some primitive plants of land were 700 million years ago and mushrooms living in the soil 1000 million years ago. Many of them were simple organisms similar to mats or leaf.
During the Cambrian period, many important species appeared for the first time: trilobits, brachiopods, arthropods (water scorpion) and Conodonts (precursors for all vertebrates). Every modern animal of Phyla, with the exception of Bryozoa, a phyll of the organism to build a cliff, had a representative in Cambrian.
The Cambrian period is the first geological area, which was defined by the presence of certain fossils rather than any time division. The beginning of the period is defined by the occurrence of trilobites and its horseC occurs during the Cambrian-Guardian events, the first main extinction of the Fanerozoic EON, a period including 542 million years ago to this day. This extinct event smoked about half of all animal species.
TheCambrian period can be divided into three different periods, each about 12 million years: early Cambrian, Middle Cambrian and Furongian. After the Cambrians period came the Ordoviku period.
