What is a functional organizational structure?

Functional organizational structure is a method of organization based on a department, which also belongs to a person or a group. This is one of the large three organizational structures, the other two are simple and divisional structures. With a functional organizational structure, the business has a vertical hierarchy and a horizontal level. One person is usually in charge of the heads of different departments. Below them are gradually lower layers of the hierarchy. The departments are vertical, but horizontal with other divisions in society under their head of the department. This clear definition of tasks allows large groups of people to communicate with each other without having to take care of positions and rank. There are three main methods of business organization.
