What does the public security dispatcher do?

Public security dispatcher is an individual who works in a call center, usually in an emergency communication center to send emergency services. The most common sent emergency services are police, fire and ambulance. In some cases, the Coast Guard, the National Guard and other services may be called, especially if the emergency situation is at sea or is greater. The training needed to become a public security dispatcher includes basic CPR and first aid and can also include psychiatric and stress tests.

The first thing the public security dispatcher must do is to assess a situation where the caller contacts the center. The first question is usually asked, "What is your emergency situation?" In most cases, the dispatcher will receive a variety of information on his computer screen, such as the caller's phone number and the approximate location. This helps the dispatcher to know where to send emergency services.

Once the public security dispatcher determines the nature of emergencyE, then the dispatcher must decide which service to be sent. In most cases it is not difficult to determine, but in some situations more than one emergency service may be needed. For example, if the caller reports an attack or shooting, police and ambulances may be called. Even the fire brigade can be called to such scenes in some communities to provide a deposit to medical staff.

After deciding which service is needed, the emergency dispatcher then sends a call via the radio network to this service. In general, this call will first sound an emergency warning followed by an address and the nature of an emergency. The first respondents then approach the scene and may apply for further information on the route or clarify the problems.

In most cases, the public security dispatcher will remain on the line with the person until the emergency service arrives. Practice helps in several different ways.First, a calm and calming voice keeps the caller calmer in what could be a very stressful situation. Also, if the circumstances change, the dispatcher may immediately transmit this information without relying on the caller to call back with other information.

Public security dispatcher after completion of the call may be responsible for logging on paper calls, even if it is also recorded. Information about a written protocol may include a call time, number, nature of emergency and how long the call took. This information may be important for investigating cases of enforcement of law relating to crime.
