What is albinism?

Albinism is a recessive inherited condition that affects about one in 17,000 people. The person who inherits it usually inherits the recessive gene for the condition from every parent, although this is not the case in ocular albinism. The condition, often fatal in other animals, has almost no impact on life expectancy or overall health in humans, but affects vision to varying degrees.

those affected by albinism have hypopigmentation that can affect either the eyes (eye); or leather, eyes and hair (octicular). Hypopigmentation means that the affected person does not create enough melanin, a chemical that is responsible for the color of hair, eye and skin. Within these two subsets, there is a change in the amount of pigmentation that a person can have, so people with this condition do not always have the same color or appearance.

Eye albinism can significantly affect vision because the development of retina is often influenced. It seems that this typvy is mostly in men. Eyes are very light blue or purple colors. They are not as timeIt believes, completely white. The effects of

are changing on vision, but may include almost side or distance. Nystagmus, in which the eyes move quickly and forth, can also appear. The primary result may be lazy eye or crossed eyes.

Eye albinism can also lead to light sensitivity and, in some cases, result in legal blindness. Treatment focuses on repairing or reducing the effects of various eye conditions. Most of the treatment is palliative, especially when the sensitivity to light, such as wearing high quality sunglasses when they are out. Visational problems are, if possible, solved by glasses or with eye training for lazy eye.

in oculocutic albinism, not only eyes, but also skin and hair is very light. The skin may look white. Hair is blond or sometimes red. Vision conditions such as the conditions associated with the eye al may be presentbinism.

The degree of pigmentation is classified into types. Type 1 produces virtually no pigment. Type 2 produces some pigment. Therefore, all people with this condition do not look the same.

The most important preventive care for those who have hypopigmentation is to alleviate vision problems and use sunscreen at least 20 SPF when it is outside. Although some people with type 2 may be able to tan, the lack of melanin in both types may later lead to an increased risk of skin cancer. This was partly responsible for the belief that albinism was shortening life. In places where the cream is not available, often leads to fatal melanoma.

There is one final type that represents a significant threat to health. Herman's-pain syndrome is a form that can cause excessive bleeding, lung disease and bowel disease. If a child has albinism, parents should be a vigilant and talk to a pediatrician if they notice unusual bleeding or bruises.

In most cases, however, the most important factors resulting from Albinism are psychosocial. The prejudice exists against something or anything else and may be particularly difficult in countries where most of the dark skin is. False beliefs in some cultures include albinism causing sterility or that the lack of human pigmentation means that it is cursed. Care should be taken to disseminate the right information about this condition in order to erad the social stigma.
