What Is Coccidioides?
Coccidia (scientific name: Sphaerozoum fuscum) is an animal of the genus Coccidia. Distributed in the Pacific Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Indian Ocean, including the East China Sea, Hainan Island and other sea areas, often living on the surface.
- Coccidia is a parasitic spore worm that can parasitize intestinal wall cells of livestock and poultry. Divided into giant Eimeria, Eimeria brucella, Eimeria meliloti, Eimeria mitigata, poisoned Eimeria, tender Eimeria, and premature Eimeria Coccidia etc. All types of coccidia have fixed habitats and reproduce extremely quickly without cross infection. Rabbits invade the liver area; poultry can occupy the intestinal wall and can cause disease. Need to add insect repellent or anticoccidial agent in the feed, such as salt saisin sodium, monensin sodium, etc.
- Coccidia is a type of protozoa that is susceptible to infecting wild animals. Among them, loospora bell and cryptosporidium can infect humans and cause chronic diarrhea.
- Need only a single host in its life history,
- Specimen measurement (micron) IOAS-R
- The western part of the East China Sea (June, October-December 1959), the southern end of Hainan Island, the Pacific Ocean,
- To put it simply, dogs and cats begin to diarrhea on the 3rd day after infection and blood diarrhea on the 4th to 6th day. In severe natural cases, fecal blood is caused by hemorrhagic enteritis, with dehydration, anemia, weight loss, weakness, and even death. Survivors in the acute phase have gelatin-like mucus in their blood pupa, which naturally recovers in 7 to 10 days. A necropsy revealed hemorrhagic enteritis in the entire small intestine, especially at the end of the small intestine. Patients with mild infection showed punctate bleeding, intestinal wall ulcers, and thickened intestinal mucosa.
- There are many therapeutic drugs for coccidiosis. Since coccidia are prone to drug-resistant strains, new anticoccidials have been continuously developed. However, coccidia has a characteristic that after stopping using a tolerable drug for a period of time, the coccidia can recover the sensitivity to the drug. Therefore, every time a ranch is replaced with another anticoccidial drug.
- How to prevent it?
- Therefore, as long as the formation and ingestion of sporulated oocysts can be avoided, the occurrence of coccidiosis can be controlled.
- Frequent cleaning of poultry houses, frequent cleaning of feeding troughs and drinking fountains are all matters needing attention in feeding management. (So parents should really clean up where they sleep with pets at home)
- The addition of vitamins in the feed is also closely related to coccidiosis. For example, the addition of vitamins A and K to the feed can help poultry to resist coccidiosis.
- However, vitamin B is helpful for asexual reproduction of coccidia, so it cannot be added to the feed during coccidiosis. If it is accidentally added, the effect of anticoccidial drugs will be greatly reduced. Therefore, when using anticoccidial drugs, vitamins should be avoided B.
