What is PBX?

PBX (Private Branch Exchange) is a private phone to switch the phone to process multiple telephone lines without paying a telephone company to rent each line separately.

Normally, the telephone line is connected to the local central office of the telephone company via the "trunk". The central office is responsible for routing incoming and outgoing calls. It also provides other services such as voice mail, calling calls, caller ID, etc. For this service, the telephone company receives a monthly fee. With PBX on the spot, each phone only needs extension, not a telephone number and PBX processes all calls made from the table to the board within the company, usually "9" (in the United States). PBX then converts calls to the central office of the telephone company. From there the call is normally routed. If the company has 100 phones, it is unlikely that everyone would make an external call at the same time. Possible only 10% will require an outer line at a given momentku. Therefore, the company would rent 10 lines from the telephone company rather than 100.
