What Is an Oil Refinery?

Refinery refers to a factory that produces crude oil, such as diesel, gasoline, kerosene, lubricating oil, petroleum coke, asphalt, and ethylene, through distillation, catalysis, cracking, cracking, and hydrorefining.

The classification of refineries can usually be divided into three types.
1. Fuel-based refinery. Production of clean fuel, some clean fuel refineries also produce lubricants
2. Oil-chemical combined refinery. Not only production of oil products (mainly fuels and lubricants), but also chemical raw materials (olefins, aromatics, etc.)
3. Chemical-type refinery. Mainly produces chemical raw materials (olefins, aromatics) [1]
Through a series of physical and chemical processing methods, the contradiction between the nature of crude oil and the product should be resolved, and the crude oil is processed into petroleum products that meet various quality standards.
Once processed
The centralized arrangement of heat pumps is not conducive to fire safety. You can set hot oil pumps with a medium temperature exceeding the spontaneous ignition point near the tower and the container, and ensure that the area above the pump area is empty without installing equipment or pipelines.
The electric desalination tank safety valve's straight drain is prone to fire. The safety valve of the electric desalination tank of the newly built atmospheric pressure reducing device should be installed in the oil phase to ensure hermetic discharge.
The high-pressure separator is provided with a shut-off valve to the low-pressure separator. Once the liquid level of the high-pressure separator changes abnormally, the control valve cannot be cut off in time, and the problem of high-pressure string and low-pressure occurs, which causes a serious explosion accident.
The gas furnace of the heating furnace should have perfect isolation measures, and a fire extinguisher should be installed to ensure that the furnace can operate safely and reliably. [3]
Texas-refinery fire
Xinhua News Agency, Houston, August 12th. According to US media reports, a fire broke out on a refinery in Texas in the United States on the 12th, injuring seven people.
Jefferson County police told local media that seven injured people have been taken to a local hospital for treatment. There is no danger in the area around the refinery at this time. Police are investigating the cause of the accident on the scene.
The fired refinery belongs to Sun Oil, located in Port Arthur, 146 kilometers east of Houston. It is the largest refinery in the United States with a daily production capacity of 636,500 barrels. [4]
