What is the rock cod?
Rock Cod is a fish that doesn't really belong to the COD family, but instead it is related to Grouper . They are found on the coast of southeast and southwest Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand. They are also found on the shore of the large Bight, Australian, open bays at the southern end of the continent. These fish are sometimes called beardie , especially in Australia.
Beardies are mild fish. This means that, unlike most other fish species, their body temperatures do not choose to suit water temperature changes. Types of fish such as rock cod, so they must live in waters that have a relatively consistent and warm temperature throughout the year. They have a edge or outline around their fin, which is generally a slightly lighter shade of red than the rest of the body. They also have barrals or beard similar to pendants, on their chin. Rock cod usually prefers to stay in waters,which are deep from 33 to 295 ft (10 to 90 m). They also attract pure ocean waters and often find swimming in open, small groups.
rock cod feeds on other small fish that swim along the ocean bottom. Approximately 80% of the rock cod diet consists of Sea Goldie , which is also known as Golden Rybka. The rock cod can also feed small crustaceans, such as crayfish, shrimp or crabs of spiders.
This species lives in groups that have only three to thirteen members. Usually there is only one male fish rock cod per group, with two to 12 women. One of the females will be dominant and will act as a protector of the group and its territory.
In Australia, fishing on rock cod is performed throughout the year by private and commercial fishermen. The meat of this fish is white, scaly and tender. The taste is slightly sweet and mild with somewhat fish taste and odor. Fish contains sizeMi little fat, so it's a healthy choice of food.
