What is Alfonino?

Alfonino is a common name given by one of the three types of fish that consists of the family beryx in the Berycidae family. Three species are beryx decadactylus , beryx minlis and beryx splendens . Alfonino fish, sometimes called Alfonsin, are located in mild and tropical deep waters of the oceans around the world. These fish were dated back to the Cretaceous period, between 145 and 65 million years. Red colors are often orange on their underside. The sausages and interior of their mouths are bright red. Alfonino, which grows to a length of 24 inches (60 cm), has barbed weights, large mouths and large eyes.

The fish body is compressed. There are four dorsal spines and each is gradually longer than it before. Juvenile fish have on the heads of the spine and their second dorsal beam is extended.
