Beta cells (beta cells), in general, mainly refer to islet beta cells in the islets that secrete insulin, also known as islet B cells.
Islets can secrete insulin and glucagon and other hormones. According to their staining and morphological characteristics, human islet cells are mainly divided into: -cells (also known as A cells, which account for 15-20% of islet cells), secrete glucagon; -cells (also known as B cells, 65-80% of islet cells), secretes insulin; -cells (also known as D cells, which account for 3-10% of islet cells), secretes somatostatin; and PP-cells (also known as PP cells, accounts for islet cells 1%), secreting pancreatic peptides.
