What is a nervous stem cell?
neural stem cells are an immature cell found in certain parts of the brain. It can distinguish or develop into other types of cells that form the central nervous system. Neural stem cells are found both in the development of the adult nervous system of mammals, but this term often applies to those that are found in adults rather than embryonic nerve stem cells. The best potential candidates include Parkinson's disease and spinal cord injury. It also seems promising testing of nerve stem cells performed in animals. For example, scientists at the University of California in Reeve-Iirvina Research Centers used adult human nerve stem cells to regenerate the spinal cord tissue and improve mobility in mice.
As with other adults or somatic stem cells, it is limited. The adult nervous stem cell seems to be found only in the subventtricular zone and hippocampus of the brain. There are only a few nerve stem cells in each tissue. Once the nerve KME is removed from the bodyNew cells seem to be limited to their ability to divide. On the other hand, it seems that embryonic stem cells are able to proliferate almost at will.
