What is the umbilical artery?

The placenta is an organ that develops in the uterus of a pregnant woman and provides blood, oxygen and nutrition. The placenta is associated with the fruit of the umbilical cord. There are two arteries inside the line; Both arteries are referred to as umbilical arteries. Once oxygen and nutrients are used, the umbilical artery transmits deoxygenated blood and waste from the fetus back to the placenta. This waste and exhausted blood then passes through the placenta and into the mother's bloodstream, where it is transmitted to its kidneys for disposal.

umbilical arteries range from the cord to the pan. After birth, the arteries are limited when the umbilical cord is cut and tied. In the body, these arteries become part of the middle umbilical ligament, a fibrous cord that leads from the navel to the pelvis and the superior universal artery that supplies the bladder.

The increased frequency of abortion is associated with SuA, although it is probably the result of other abnormalities. While infants with SUa may have a lower birth weight, the fetus is able to receive sufficient nutrition to maintain only one umbilical artery during pregnancy.

Studies suggest that children with SUA are at greater risk for certain congenital defects. This abnormality can be detected during apricatal ultrasound, even if it usually occurs until birth. If there is any prenatal indication of one umbilical artery, the doctor may order a doppler ultrasound, a preferred method for exploring the fetal circulatory system.

Most infants with one umbilical artery are born without congenital or chromosomal defects. IfHowever, defects are present, they may occur in a number of systems. Muscle skeletal problems such as club or vertebral malformations may be present. Problems can also be found in urine, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and respiratory systems. While some of these abnormalities may be serious or fatal, others are smaller, treatable or restrictive. Lack of second umbilical artery does not necessarily mean that the child will have serious complications, but the condition requires monitoring of the fetus and a thorough medical examination of the newborn.
