What are temporary fossils?
transitional fossils are fossils of transient forms of life representing an evolutionary bridge between two recognized groups. Transient fossils are among the strongest evidence in favor of Darwin's theory of evolution and natural selection, but are insufficiently recognized. Many people believe that there are more gaps in a temporary fossil record than it really is. In fact, hundreds of important transient forms are known.
One of the first obvious transitional fossils is Pikiaia gracilens , a simplifying organism similar to the lane found in the slate (505 million years ago) and also Flinders in Australia (560 million years ago). Pikakia is a transient fossil among invertebrates and vertebrates (chordata), depicting the primitive nototochord, the predecessor of the spine. Pikakia average 1 1/2 inches (5 cm) in length and floated above the seabed, where he probably ate microfauna and food particles. pikakia formulated relatively badly, while you are stillTilo only 60 samples.
The later transitional fossil is a fish with a lobe tiktaalik, the proto-tetrappod, who lived approximately 375 million years ago during the late Devonian period. tictalik fins show the basic bones of the wrist and simple fingers that show that they carried weight and that the animal was at least involved in limited raids on the ground. tiktaalik is considered to be a transient fossil between fish and tetraody. Because it shows the characteristics of both, tictalik and similar fossils were dubbed "Fishapods".
Another transitional fossil, one of the most famous, is Archeopteryx , temporary among birds and dinosaurs. Archeopteryx lived 155-150 million years ago, during the late Jurassic period. The first complete skeleton was declared in 1862 and this species became the key piece of evidence used to defend evolutionary theory in diapers. Archeopteryx bY could grow to a length of 0.5 m (1.6 ft) and despite its superficial similarity to birds, it actually has more in common with small small dinosaurs theropod.
Many transitional fossils were found among people and our immediate ancestors, chimpanzees. Since these species have lived relatively recently, only in the last few million years, these fossils have been better preserved than the ancient ones. homo habilis and homo erectus There are two common examples of such transient fossils and they tell us a lot about the development of hominides.
