What is a Suspension Bridge?

In this way, it not only solves the problem of stacking mud on the lake, but also facilitates transportation between the north and the south.
Su Dongpo shouted with joy: "Okay! Let's go to the other side of the lake to see." "

Su Dongpo got on a fishing boat and came to Nanshan. A small boat sailed out of the willow forest, and a clear singing voice flew up:
Nanshan female, Beishan male,
Older than twenty-three.
The two loved each other and said,
"The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl" put Dipan.
Su Dongpo listened, and laughed, "Sing well, sing well, Nanshan girl, Beishan man, let me build a long bank on the lake, and fulfill your good marriage!"
News spreading that the embankment was to be built on the West Lake, the fishermen, farmers and citizens of the north and south mountains all heard the news and volunteered to work. Su Dongpo said, "Thank you folks, you have been suffering from floods early in the past year, and you are having trouble living. I have declared to the court and decided to allocate a batch of rice to work for me." There are many people and great strength. From summer to autumn, seven sections of long embankments were finally built in Beishan to Nanshan, and six waterways were left between the sections. However, due to lack of money, the bridge was temporarily unavailable. A young coward on the shore of Hubei came up with a good idea, chopped down a group of trees, assembled them into planks, and built six suspension bridges. Usually, the suspension bridge is pulled up to allow the ships in and out of the lake to pass. Sooner or later, the suspension bridge is lowered to allow the folks on both sides of the strait to pass. Peach trees and willows were planted on both sides of the long embankment to protect the embankment and spring to pink willow and green to add a beautiful view to the West Lake.

Later generations remembered the achievements of Su Dongpo s construction of the embankment and called this embankment north and south.
