What is anaerobe?
Anaerobe is an organism that is able to prosper in an oxygen -free environment, and in some cases it may actually need an environment with limited or no oxygen. Many anaerobs are microorganisms, but some larger organisms are also anaerobic, such as massive tubes found near hydrothermal holes. Anaerobes are interesting for people for many reasons, not least, that some can cause infections and illnesses when they are used by people. On the other hand, optional anaerobes can live in areas with different oxygen levels and use changing conditions. Scientists can isolate aerobic organisms from anaerobic organisms by means of liquid culture. Aerobic organisms are clustered near the surface of culture to have access to oxygen, while mandatory anaerobes settle on the bottom. Optional, microaerophilic and related organisms are distributed to the center of culture to find the levels of saturation by oxygen they require.
The ability to live in water does not necessarily have to make an organism by anaerob, although water is a liquid.
