What is neurobiology?

neurobiology is a complex science that studies the brain and the nervous system of humans and other animals. For example, neurobiology can study brain development in a developing animal or neurological origin of the disease. This field includes many different methods of study.

Some neurobiology focuses on molecular structures of the brain and nervous system. Larger complete systems such as the function and structure of the cortex can be studied. Scientists can look at biological factors that affect learning or mood, or can study how early genetic material develops into different areas of the brain. Such studies helped explain the processes and developmental aspects of the brain. The first neurobiologists studied the properties of individual neurons and amine neurotransmitters, evaluated the role of peptides in neurotransmisi and monitored the development of the brain of the fetus. The perhapne important study of this era was pioneering work on visual processing, for which David Hubel and Torston Wiesel won the 1981 Nobel Prize.

The neurobiology field has changed when DNA began to study and understand. Neurobiologists can now study the way the genes affect brain structures. As the human genome project grew to the extent, neurobiology jumped to the invitation to understand the exact relationship between specific genes and neurological reactions.

The University of Harvard in 2001 welcomed the opening of its brain imaging center. With the magnetic resonance imaging technology (MRI), neurobiology tried to explore the relationship between brain activity and mental occurrences or disorders. These studies have proven to be successful in diagnosing difficult cases of schizophrenia, epilepsy, anxiety and other disorders. In addition, these studies have specific pictures of how the brain reacts to disturbing or engaging stimuli.

US National Institute for Drug Abuse uses neurobiology to understand brain function at zthe effect, support and overcome addiction. More specifically, this work examines how to use addictive drugs regulate certain genes and proteins. Scanning genes are also used for predisposition addictive factors and identified some genetic factors related to addiction. One of the most important aspects of these studies is an attempt to increase understanding why and how drugs such as antidepressants work or do not work.

Most drugs prohibited for psychological diseases are selected on the basis of probable theories. For example, persons with manic depression are often prescribed drugs designed to reduce seizures. The benefits of these drugs and the way they act on the brain are not clearly understood and require more studies. Neurobiology Work employed at the US National Institute for Drug Abuse and in scientific laboratories, schools and hospitals can eventually increase our understanding of this area.
