What is primatology?

Primatology is a scientific study of living primates inhumane. Primates are our closest relatives among all living things. Monkeys, Gibbons, larger apes and people are primates. Primatology exists because people have a unique place in primates. Primatology gives us a greater understanding of the biological nature. Primatology helps people get better understanding of our own qualities. We owe these qualities to our origin of primates, which allows us to determine what makes us human. It also helps us understand what makes us check, both biologically and behavior. We share a common ancestor that dates back to about six million years ago. Modern apes and other primates have since evolved people. Primatology takes into the need to not accept studies of modern primates as literal reading of our ancient past.

are one of the various groups of mammals. They are very different in size. They can be the smallest of mice lemurs, only 24-38 grams (0.85-1.3 oz), to the figOvski adult male gorile, which can weigh at 200 kg (440 lb).

characteristics of primates include tendency to erect the upper body at standing, sitting and walking. Their hands also have five digits and most of them have contradictory thumbs. Primates also have nails instead of claws.

Another characteristic of the primates is that the eyes are set in the front of the face. They also have a strong dependence on learned behavior and a reduced number of offspring. In primates, there is also a shift from smell to feeling vision and using tactile organs such as hands.

Psychobiologist Robert Yerkes was an early primatology expert. At the age of 30, he operated the Yerkes regional primacy center in Atlanta. He had the largest collection of apes in the country. His primatological tests included social behavior, stress, IQ testing and physiology.

A well -known primatology expert is Dianne Fossey. In the year1967 she studied mountain gorillas in Rwanda. It is assumed that Fossey was killed and tried to protect her gorillas from hunters. Gorillas in the fog is a film about Fossey's life in the lead role of Sigourney Weaver and is an excellent starting point for anyone interested in studying primates.
