What is a fax server?

Fax server is software and hardware that allows many users to send and receive documents through one central fax system. Fax software runs on a computer often dedicated to faxing task. Its hardware includes one or more fax modems connected to telephone lines or IP network of internet protocol (IP). Fax servers are used to reduce costs and improve efficiency according to organizations of all types. Some people built the entire company around charging others to send, receive and store faxes using their servers. Often sent by e -mail or uploading via a web interface, they can be in one of several popular formats. In general, simple text, a portable document format (PDF) and common software text processing documents are accepted. Some fax servers also allow users to release documents directly to the virtual printing device. This device will then transfer documents to the server without printed them.

Once the fax server is received, each document is converted to the fax format and for the queue transmission. One of the possible few separate or cardboard fax models on the server computer transmits a document. When it is completed, a message about success or failure can be sent by e -mail, text message or other means of the original user.

The fax server also corresponds to incoming fax calls and can test them on the list of known sender of "unhealthy" faxes. Documents received by the server can be stored in PDF or other common formats. The server can tell the document directly or simply to notify the user that the fax is waiting.

Compared to traditional fax, the fax server offers many benefits. No document prints, paper storage and toner are required. The documents are transmitted as soon as the fax modem is free, rather than when someone has time to manually fax them. AdmittedThe documents are available to Instantly and only the intended recipient. Only one fax server is usually required for a large organization, rather than for many individual fax machines.

Paper jamming and skip pages are no longer fax problems. Faxes can be easily monitored and recorded if necessary. For maintenance, the Information Technology Department (IT) can take responsibility for a centrally located server. Automatic Fax ability can be added or enabled in other types of software. The server can also deliver a fax to the mailbox of the unified message sending the message instead of the e -mail.

Some fax servers are designed for sending and receiving faxes directly through the company intranet. These use international Telecommunication Union technology (ITU) T.38 "Fax Over IP" instead of telephone line. Internet fax services often provide convenient faxing and storing documents for individual business owners. For a monthly fee, the user can have one orAbout multiple fax numbers in different areas of codes without telephone lines. Faxes are stored on the server and uploaded or downloaded as documents over the Internet.

Fax server software is available for the most common operating systems. The basic software is often associated with the operating system. More advanced software can usually be purchased from third parties. Some programs are also provided by sellers with an open source code.
