What is the enterprise portal?
Business portal is the only website that allows employees to access a number of tools, programs and features. The portal is available via the Internet and usually has public and private presence. The main purpose of the business portal is to provide employees adapted to access to information and tools required in its position. Many companies also use the enterprise portal to communicate with employees, share documents and encourage cooperation.
There are several different technologies that can be used to create a business portal: Sun®, Microsoft SharePoint® and SAP® are just some of the popular software tools. In order to support this type of technology, the organization must invest significant sources in computer hardware to host an active website, security certificates to maintain the private part of the portal and the user management tool. The skills needed to support this type of technology often occur in Operacins supporting employees or hardware specialists.
In most organizations, the enterprise portal is used to display specific functions or information to users from the ERP planning system (ERP). The portal is simply a door used to access these systems. The programming needed to make the functionality available via the portal varies depending on the ERP technology. For example, SAP® developer can use either Java® or ABAP® to create a user's web portal.
Each employee in the organization is provided with a username and password to access the portal. Roll -based authorization is usually used to determine what function is able to perform. For example, all employees may automatically have access to browsing your own remuneration statements, submitting forms for returning expenditure and recording holiday applications. Based on the position of a person in organizationalization, he or she can also have access toforms of human resources, inventory management or financial information. All access is managed by the same group that controls access to the ERP system.
6 From the developer's point of view, the enterprise portal is the perfect delivery method for users who do not have to access ERP daily, but are more opportunities for users. This feature also opens the door for analytical dashboards, metrics and other communication tools.
