What is the information technology library?

Information technology library (ITIL®) is a number of books that describe methods for implementing and management of information technology services (IT). The methods described in the library are intended to streamline IT services by improving or implementing tactics for IT environments, such as a problem and a consciousness of standby, cost analysis and management and configuration of software and hardware. Books also describe ways to handle all inevitable changes in IT environments. It is known that through many practices described in ITIL® organizations, it dramatically improves IT resource efficiency and reduces costs by up to 50 percent. The then central computer and communication agency, which later merged the DOFice of government trade, originally published over 30 volumes in the first version of ITIL®. The library was required to read for British government agencies and suppliers interested in providing IT services.

However, it has gradually gained worldwide popularity over the years. The second version of the library was released, which condensed the material for eight volumes. The third version published in 2007 further reduced the number of books in the library to five. It is only the core of the library of information technology infrastructure, while according to each of the main topics, additional volumes can offer more specific procedures depending on the type of IT services.

The first main topic in the Information Technology Information Technology Library is engaged in strategy and reduces organization's objectives through planning and analysis. The more theme area includes a real design of IT environment, and needs from the analysis and married with specifics such as hardware, software, staff, strategic partnerships, etc.to an unforeseen disaster. Other areas are engaged in general tactics for efficient everyday operation of IT environments are discussed and proactive management and other improvements.

Although the complexity of the original 30 plus volume was somewhat densified, the density of topics still exists. To help with the complex library of information technology infrastructure, a set of tools has been designed to help organizations to start and develop practices into their own IT environments. Theitil® Toolkit contains things such as Slide Shows for speed management, fast factual sheets that summarize topics and procedures, and a set of questionnaires to find out what areas already work and could require improvements.
