What is a linear encoder?
Linear encoder is a type of electronic sensor that is able to measure the position along the line. They are commonly used in robotic and automation systems. There are several different types of linear encoders, each using a different method of detection to determine the location of the encoder.
All varieties of this tool require the correct use of the scale and sensor. The scale is a direct piece of material that is marked at consistent intervals, similar to the normal scale. The sensor in the linear encoder device is able to detect each of these intervals as it moves around the slip. Every time the sensor is detected and counted interval marking, the output of the linear encoder changes. The sensor on this tool usually emits an infrared, visible or laser light. Light impulses reflecting the scale marking are detected and calculated. The optical encoder can be very accurate and is often able to determine the linear position in one micrometer.
Not all linear signs of the encoder areu visible to the human eye. Magnetic encoders use small magnetic areas built into a scale. Each area of magnetism is detected by a sensor and calculated. These are usually not as accurate as the optical variety, but can be used in dirty or humid environments that would prevent optical detection methods.
The third type of encoder uses a whirling current to determine the location. Eddy currents are created by moving the magnetic field around the conductor. The whirlpool scale is designed to have different levels of magnetic resistance. Low and high magnetic resistance areas are detected by monitoring whirlpools caused by induction.
positional data detected by a linear encoder can be either incremental or absolute. The AL positions simply indicate how far the encoder has moved in a straight line. Absolute values, on the other hand, contain data on where the encoder is placed along the scale.
Data linear encoder is sometimes used only for information purposes on deduction or display. The data can also be used as part of a more sophisticated computer -controlled system. Coders are often used to provide a computer device such as an industrial robot or an automated machine with feedback on location and travel distance of moving parts.
