What is a static pitote tube?
The static tube of Pitot or Prandtl tube, as is also known, is a primary part of the measuring system that determines the speed and altitude of the aircraft. Pitot tube systems achieve this measurement with a tube pointing into the air stream to compare the relative air pressure that flows into the tube, with the fact that it flows around it. By comparing these two variables, a set of calibrated tools can accurately measure a number of relevant environmental elements. Static Pitot tube is one of the three basic types of Pitot tube and combines both airflow and bypass.
The air flow creates a pressure value known as the overall pressure, which is a combination of pressure created at air flow speed and the ambient air pressure. The accurate calculation of the air flow rate can be achieved by comparing the difference between the total pressure and the surrounding or static pressure. Statical Pitot Tube systems achieve these comparisons to the located tube facing the air stream to measure the totalThe pressure and static port in the low turbulence area to measure the ambient pressure. Both inputs can then be used to extrapolate various readings such as air speed, altitude and climb speed.
Pitot tube systems either rely on separate RAM and static ports or combined tubes that measure general and static pressure. They are known as static pitote tubes and consist of two tubes, one inside the other. The inner tube is open at the end and collects and measures the overall pressure. The outer tube is separated from the inner partition and is perforated by a series of equidistial holes. These holes allow the system to read the surrounding or static air pressure. Both inputs are then directed to measuring instruments where they are translated into graphic readings.
Most of the static assemblies of pitch tubes are mounted by the fuselage of the aircraft. It requires to make a tubeCe bended at right angles to introduce the opening directly into the air stream; It also provides the tube of Pitot its characteristic shape L. The static tube Pitot usually has the inner elements of the heaters that prevent the accumulation and blockage of ice. Blocked Pitot tube creates a false speed of the airport, altitude and the speed of climbing. This was the cause of several catastrophic aircraft accidents in the past and shows the importance of the proper functioning of Pitot systems.
