What is a histamine blocker?

Histamine blocker is a type of drug that modifies the activity of histamine, a specialized amin that acts as a neurotransmitter and an inflammatory mediator. Histamine blockers are often referred to as antihistamines . However, this term is misleading. For one thing, these drugs do not block the synthesis of histamine from amino acid histidine, as indicated, nor from preventing its release from caustic cells. Instead, the histamine blocker is designed to prevent the aimed receptor to receive the chemical attachment, as well as instructions that are programmed to add. H1 receptors are involved in inflammatory reactions and create symptoms commonly observed in allergic reactions such as swelling, sneezing and increased nasal secretion. Therefore, the H1 histamine blocker, also known as the H1 antagonist, is administered for the treatment of allergies. H2 histamine blockerOr H2 antagonist is therefore used to prevent excessive gastric acid production and is designed to treat peptic ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Examples of conventional blockers that act at the H1 receptor sites include diffenhydramine (Benadryl®), Loratadin (Claritin®) and Chlorfeniramin (Chlor-Trimeton®). Some of these drugs, especially first generation drugs, such as diffenhydramine and chlorpheniramine, also affect H1 receptors in the brain, causing a sedative effect. However, some of the newer drugs, such as Loratadin, produce much less drowsiness, because these drugs cannot undergo even though the blood-chopping barrier and their predecessors. The most commonly used blockers H2 Are Cimetadin (Tagamet®) and Ranitidin (Zantac®). These drugs are available without a prescription.

While these drugs are very effective and considered safe, they are not without risk and side effects. E.gFor example, some of these drugs produce drowsiness and may disrupt the ability to drive or run machines, an effect of increased alcohol consumption. In contrast, some people can produce insomnia. Other common side effects include dry mouth, dizziness, hyperactivity, irregular heart rhythm, skin flush and stomach spasms. In addition, prescription prescription drug is contraindicated by warfarin (Coumadin®) and other blood directors due to increased bleeding risk, increases the level of sera of many other drugs such as calcium channel blockers and cholesterol drugs and is known to undergo breast milk.
