What is the cod?

COD is a type of ocean fish that prefers cold, deep waters such as those found in the Arctic. For centuries it has been the basic part of the European food and in England and Portugal is still popular in fresh and salted forms. Like many other fish, its survival is uncertain because of excessive fishing, environmental threat and high levels of mercury bioakumulation.

Many CODs have barbarians or beard on their faces that resemble a large descent mustache. They also have a towed jaw and a dull head that causes them to look somewhat like a bulldog. Many species are dwellings at the bottom and eat small crustaceans and other fish. They can live at the age of 15 years and in extreme cases they can weigh up to £ 66 (30 kilograms). Most achieve maturity and begin to behave at about six years of age and release large clouds of eggs.

This fish has been considered the main source of food for centuries and has been a building block of several nations, including the TON United States that changed a very large profit of preserved tressey, when it was a British colony. It has thick white meat with minimal oil, which makes it ideal for preservation in salt because it can be divided, salted and dried without the risk of galloping or rot. Solented cod, sometimes also known as Clipfish, is extremely hard and could be stacked in cars for transport across Europe.

Clipfish is still popular in Portugal, where it is called bacalhau and is used in many traditional meals. It is usually soaked before use to soften it and remove part of the salt. This meal is also common in the Caribbean, where it has been introduced as a primary source of protein for the Slave population. Many cultures have built an economy, especially Basque people who have exchanged cod for more salt, with which the next catch sow. He was also popular in Scandinavian cuisines.

in modern Times, this fish is commonly used for English food of fish and fries, although itIt is increasingly rare due to its condition. Atlantic cod is considered to be an endangered species of marine biologists who support careful fishing administrations and a serious reduction in commercial fishing. This generally influenced smaller fishing communities more than large corporations.

In the northern Pacific, Ling Cod is still commercially hunted and is known to grow very large. Like the Atlantic Cod, the once abundant species is once threatened due to excessive fishing, while the stocks grow small each year. Naval protection organizations to prevent the disappearance of this fish have recommended more careful fishing management in the Pacific.
