What is the Corm?
Corms are parts of the plant stems of a number of different plants that are usually found underground. Corm is often a part of the stem that is a living plant used as a storage center for nutrition during cold weather or summer drought or excess heat. The Corm, which consists of one or more internodes on tubers, is often covered with thin leaves and is located just above the circular basal node, which grows just above the roots of the plant.
There are two commonly used stems of plants that are identified as a CORM. Taro is an example of a CORM root that comes from several polynean cultures and is commonly used as a root vegetable in a number of meals. Taro considered one of the first known cultivated plants in the region, it cannot be consumed raw. In its natural state there are two factors that make TARO inedible. First, the sharp refides in the Corm themselves cause the consistency of the raw plants to the touch and unpleasant. Second, raw tar has a high level of toxicity. However, after peeling the leaves, the stems of plants cook and are edible tubers. Taro is usually sold in a frozen form or as a canned good.
The second popular Corm is the Chinese chestnut. This type of Corm is generally in the shape of a tube and has white meat that has a crispy consistency. Unlike TARO, Chinese water chestnuts can be consumed in raw state. Depending on the recipe, chestnuts with water can be cooked, grilled or even disposed. It is also possible to sweeten chestnuts and consume the sliced versions as a snack. One of the popular applications is dry Chinese water chestnuts and blocking Corm on flour, which can be used by water chestnut cakes, which are considered part of the Chinese dim sum of kitchen.
Different types of CORMS can often be found in special grocery stores that contain the selection of international food packaging as wellebo Chinese food products. In addition to frying recipes or as ingredients in vegetable heitches or cold salads, CORM can add another layer of taste and texture to a number of recipes.
