What is Pescatarian?

Pescatarian is a person who decides not to eat meat from land or poultry, but includes fish in their diet. This newly created term originated in 1993 and consists of mixing the word "pesce", which is Italian for fish, with the English word "vegetarian". Although the Pescatarian diet is not a vegetarian diet, it is often used as a springboard for people who adapt to food food to vegetarian food. Other people consider it a permanent happy medium among them. The traditional diet in the Mediterranean and Asian countries was historically to a large extent a pescatarian.

As well as a vegetarian, Pescatarian often includes eggs and dairy products in its diet and fulfills other nutritional needs by various legumes, nuts, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Studies

show that Omega-3 fats can promote cardiovascular health by reducing triglycerides and blood pressure, while increasing good HDL cholesterol levels. It is also known that Omega-3 fats help to thin blood to prevent clotting and break plaque in arteries before it can grow and cause blockage. Sometimes they are used to regulate the inflammatory cycle of the body, which can provide relief to people with arthritis or other conditions caused by inflammation. Given the many alleged advantages of consuming these fats, it is possible that a person who switches to a pescatarian diet from food can, as a result, can see an improvement in his health.

There are some concerns about health risks for people who consume too many fish based on the possibilityExposures of various toxins including mercury, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and other organic pesticides that are widely assumed due to pollution. A large number of these toxins can be very dangerous for young children and pregnant women, causing nervous system disorders and congenital defects. It is recommended that both groups eat a minimum amount of fish.

In general, larger fish will contain more mercury, although all fish have at least trace quantities. It is important that consumers are aware of the suspicion of mercury levels in the types of fish they consume. In a typical pescatarian diet, fish consumption is only one of the many sources of nutrition, and therefore often will not include the amount that will prove dangerous to the average person.
