Sablefish is a fish that passes through many different names. It has a different name in almost every country in which it is consumed. Only in English speaking countries Sablefish has eight different names.
In the United States, Sablefish is referred to as Butterfish or simply sable . Australians also refer to fish like butter fish . In the UK, Sablefish is called black cod, blue cod, bluefish, coal cod, and Candlefish . In Canda, Sablefish is called Cockafish . In order to further confuse the thing, the above -mentioned names are sometimes also used to indicate other types of fish. Fish are also consumed in Japan and Thailand, where of course it has other names.
To be quite specific, Soblefish is one of the only two members of the family of fish families Anoplopomatidae. Besides, it is the only kind of genus Anoplopoma. Its full Latin name is anoplopoma fimbria .
