What is Anmitsu?

Anmitsu is a traditional Japanese dessert bowl with a sweet bean paste and small cubes of gelatin with peas and various fruit. In Japanese, these two ingredients are called anko and mitsumame . Their combination, as well as the contraction of their two names, is a popular food called Anmits. The first record of their pairing until 1930, shortly after Japan successfully processed a gel agent called agar of seaweed on an industrial scale. The Japanese call it Tenggusa or "heavenly grass".
