What is Armoracia?
Armoracia is the scientific name of the family, which includes most types of horseradish. This genus is a subgroup of the Brassicaceae plant family, more often called a mustard family, which also includes plants such as cabbage, turnouts, radishes and wasabi. One of the most common species of the genus is Armoracia Rustica or Variegated Horseradish, which is a permanent flowering plant widely grown for its culinary use. The roots and leaves of the plant are edible, the roots are often grated or cut and used as a spice for meat or fish. Armoracia rustica leaves do not eat as often as roots.
Although it is likely that the genus is indigenous for southeastern Europe or Western Asia, most of the armoricia species can prosper in a wide range of different climate. While some species have small white flowers, these flowers are sterile and do not produce any seed, so most horseradish plants must be promoted using a method called Root Division. This includes a neckline from the roots of the plant and planting cutting that eventually developsto a new separate plant.
Armoracia Rustica, a varied horseradish, is a permanent plant that usually reaches a height of about three feet (one meter), but can be up to five feet (one and a half meters). It has flat, wide leaves that are somewhat similar to leaves of cabbage or other leafy vegetables. As the name suggests, these leaves are not full color and are usually bright green spotted white or white spots. These white spots disappear when the plant is physically disturbed, it only reappears when it is calm again. Armoracia Rustica also has small white flowers on long stems that bloom between the end of spring and early summer.
While its colorful leaves are relatively attractive, the primary purpose of growing Brno Rustica is for its roots. When the roots are unpainted, they do not have a scent at all, but cutting or grille releases pungent oil called allyl isothiocyanate or mustard oil. Along with this strongIn the aromas, roots have a sharp and spicy taste and are therefore often used as a spice. When they are omitted in the fresh air, the cut roots begin to rotate from white to brown and receive a bitter taste, so they are often grated and preserved in vinegar. This preparation of horseradish is popular in many parts of the world and is used to add taste to roast, steaks, seafood, sandwiches and soups or colored green and serve as an inexpensive alternative to Japanese wasabi next to sushi meals.
There are also traditional healing use for plants from this genus. Horseradish root is a diuretic, which means that it increases the urge to urinate, so it can be used to treat the urinary tract infections. Because the strong root aroma also stimulates and irritates sinus cavities, it can also be used to release the overload of the sinus.
