What is BGH?

Hormone beef growth (BGH) is a naturally occurring hormone secreted by the pituitary gland. You can also hear BGH referred to as "Bovine somatotropin" or BST. This hormone enters the bloodstream and regulates the level of growth and milk production for a cow. Already at the age of 30, people noted that when BGH levels increased in cattle by harvesting hormone from cows corpse, milk production also increased and several companies because they were interested in using BGH to strengthen milk production. This process is known as "recombinant DNA", which reflects the idea that the DNA host bacteria has been changed for a specific target purpose. The result was RBGH, the synthetic form of BGH, which was easy to produce on a large scale, and was approved for use in the United States at the beginning of the 90's.

Cows treated with RBGH actually produce more milk, sometimes up to 25% more, but the hormone is very hard on their body. Increased levels of BGH lead to lack of calcium in bone and many other health problems. BecauseBGH can be used to force cows to produce milk all year round, whether they open up, the hormone also pushes the body to produce an unusually high level of milk, which can lead to timely degeneration. BGH cows usually have short lives and are susceptible to mastitis, udder infection, together with joint pain and broken bones. The use of BGH is often reserved for the last few milking cycles before defeat.

Some concerns about the impact of BGH on human health were raised. The hormone study suggests that it is specific to species, which means that even if the hormone or its by -products end up in milk, it should not "affect human consumers. Food and drug management says RBGH's milk is identical to milk.

Some people and regulatory agencies disagree. The European Union has banned the use of BGH in its cattle and some consumers actively seek milk that has been marked as RBGH or RBST for free. ComeMilk and Monsanto's romine manufacturers tried to fight such labels and claimed that consumers' prejudices were defeated many times in court.
