What is Caraway?

The herb is a plant whose leaves, seeds or flowers are used to flavor food or in medicine. Other uses of herbs include cosmetics, dyes and perfumes. The name comes from the Latin Herba , which means "green crops".

Caraway ( Carum Carvi ) is used as vegetables, as well as herb and comes from the same family, apiaceae, as a dill, anise and cumin. Some of the tribe names, such as German kãmmel , tend to create confusion because they come from the root word that refers to a similar herb, cumin. The English and the Dutch call Caraway as wild cumin / wilde komijn . In Icelandic is cumin kummin , while Kasaway is kãmerin .
