What is Chinese cucumber?

Chinese cucumber is a vegetable that is in the genus of the strynx trichosanthes . Also known as the Mongolian snake gourd, grows on the vines along the ground, or can climb to grids or chicken wire. Plants come from the opening of forest and grassy areas of China. These types of cucumbers are edible and sometimes loaded or consumed raw in salads. All parts of this ornamental plant are used for healing purposes.

This universal tender perennial can be grown in light, aluminum soil and also in heavy clay. The soil must be moist and has good drainage. When growing Chinese cucumber, it is important to provide a lot of sunlight because it will not grow in shady areas. The plant produces furry white flowers from mid -summer to autumn, which then go to seed and produce fruit. Mature fruits are about 4 inches (10.2 cm) long.

Although the Chinese cucumber plant tends to walk on the ground, it can also be trained to climb. This makes it great for Small spaces and Mohou are even grown as a container plant when located in a large pot with small grids. If it is grown in the garden, there should be enough space to spread. It is similar to growing habit as more common English cucumbers or pole beans.

The healing Chinese cucumber root itself has a number of uses. It is said that it is a powerful abortion and in the past the fungus was soaked in cucumber juice and then placed in the vagina to cause abortion, usually in the second trimester of pregnancy. The root was also administered as a treatment of diabetes and facilitating work. In addition, the roots of Chinese cucumbers contain trichosanthin, a protein that has been tested since 2011 as a possible AIDS treatment.
