What is a German coffee cake?

German coffee cake, sometimes called kitchen , is the type of cake that came in Central Europe. It can be served either as a breakfast food or as a light dessert served with coffee. Some types of German coffee cake are served with icing or fillings such as sugar sugar, various fruits and nuts or chocolate.

There are a number of cakes that can generally be referred to as a German coffee cake. One type, called Gugelhupf , is traditionally baked in a pelvis in the shape of a circle. It is similar to a pan into the cake, but deeper and often more decorated. Gugelhupf usually has raisins, date or almond pieces and sometimes flavored brandy.

Streusel Coffee Cake, or Struselkuchen , always has a layer of decaying bays. This watering is most often made by cutting butter to a mixture of flour and sugar. It also often contains cinnamon.

Gugelhupf , Streusel and other types of German coffee cake can be adjusted with various other ingredients or flavors. StrokeThe cinnamon and fruits such as raisins are the most common flavors, some recipes require orange or lemon zest, peaches or chocolate flakes. These can form a separate layer as a filling or icing, or can be mixed into a dough or dough.

Unlike most American coffee cake styles, a German coffee cake usually uses yeast as an agent. This makes the preparation of the German coffee cake more difficult and time consuming than most other types of cakes. Yeast must usually be dissolved in milk or water, carefully heated to temperatures that are activated but not repeated living cultures. The dough must also be allowed to get up, usually about two hours. For those who do not work with yeast, however, there are some recipes that instead require aneal soda or baking powder.
