What is JELL-O® salad?
JELL-O® salad is a type of side dish prepared by a combination of JELL-O® or other gelatin with any combination of fruits, vegetables, nuts and creams. Most JELL-O® salads are formed in decorative forms. They are usually associated with Potlucks, picnics and family gatherings in the United States. Although some have still created, they were the most popular in the 50th and 60s.
Many critics of food categorizes JELL-O® salad as a quinteting aspect of post-war American cuisine. Families who have become accustomed to allocating and lack of food during World War II have added a special pleasure in bright colors and often extravagant ingredients to JELL-O® salads. Nevertheless, the salad was economical and could be made with almost anything the cookbook happened at hand.
For many years, JELL-O® salad has been the basis of community gatherings and holidays. It would be rare to host Potluck in The US in the 1960s without getting at least one version of gelatin salad. Most of the time had their families their ownPopular salad recipes, many of which have been improvised and improved over time. JELL-O® salad has largely dropped out of popular kitchen in about 1970, although some chefs today produce these salads today, mostly from old family recipes. Salads are also very popular at thematic parties and "retro" dinners.
Most JELL-O® salad recipes focus on fruit. JELL-O® flavors like lime, pineapple or orange are usually the most common. The chefs then add pieces of grated citrus, canned fruits such as pineapple or mandarin oranges and often nuts. JELL-O® salads based on fruit are traditionally served with whipped cream.
Many JELL-O® salads also contain ingredients more common for normal garden salad. Cucumbers, carrots, celery, olives and even shredded salad can be added to JELL-O® salad. Salads in this style are often referred to as stiff salad. NThe reinforced salads are made of unwavering or ordinary gelatin, but more often than not, they are made of fruit jel-O®-perceive lime. Vegetable types of salads are often decorated with horseradish or mayonnaise.
If the salad is to be made in a shape that is common, the chef must quickly pour the fruit of the JELL-O® into a mold. Shaped JELL-O® forms are available from some retailers, but they are also commonly used cake pans-especially Bundt pans. JELL-O® must be set in a refrigerator, which often takes several hours.
Not all JELL-O® salads are shaped. Some salads, especially those that were to be directly served in individual parts, are more mixed. Seafoam JELL-O® salad is perhaps the most popular example of salad made in this style.
JELL-O® salad on the basis of fruit, except that whipped cream, cheese or cream cheese is added directly to the gelatin mixture at the same time as any fruit. When the JELL-O® is being built, it sets around these creamy andGent, resulting in a soft cloth without a mold that can easily be spoons into individual glasses or bowls. The name "Seafoam" comes from a foaming, ocean appearance that takes this kind of salad when it is made of green or blue jel-o®.
