What is Kaempferia?

Kaempferia is a group of plants that is part of a ginger family, the scientific name of ZingibeCaceae. Perhaps the most important plant of this family, which is grown for culinary and therapeutic purposes, is Kaempferia Galang, also known as the common names of Galangal, aromatic ginger, sand ginger, kencur and resurrection of Lily. This plant comes from Asia and is used as a culinary herb in a wide range of Asian cuisine. Its powder rhizomes or underground stems structures are also used in traditional Chinese medicine.

Kaempferia Galanga is a native of India, China, Tai -Wan, Cambodia and other areas of Southeast Asia. It is a flowering permanent plant that prefers a warm growing environment reminiscent of its tropical home. Kaempferia Galang also prefers the shady conditions of cultivation and moist soil. The plant has small flowers that grow in clusters in the middle of their three large wide, dark green leaves. Flowers are most often white, pink or lavender in color. They canIt starts to bloom at the end of spring and can continue flowering until the center of autumn.

In Indonesian, Balian, Javanese and Chinese cuisine, Kaempferia Galanga is a popular ingredient of cooking for its spicy aromatic taste. The separation and leaves of the plant are most often consumed. Rhizomes are light brown in color, which is strongly similar to the appearance of a common ginger root. They can be used to flavor soups, sauces or rice meals, while the leaves can be cooked and served as vegetables.

Kaempferia Galanga is one of the four unique plant species on which the common name "Galangal" is called. Although plants bearing this name have a similar look, K. Galanga can be distinguished from others, because its flowers do not have stems and its rhizomes are lighter colors. The taste of Kaempferia Galang also differs from Tgalangal, which is commonly used as ingredients in Vietnamese and ThaiCooking, which has an earthy citrus taste and lacks more spicy tones.

Traditional Chinese medicine also uses rhizomes of this plant and uses them to treat various minor medical complaints. The department is usually sold at the stalls of herbal medicine in the form of powder. They are often used to calm digestion and to minimize symptoms of respiratory diseases such as common colds.
