What is Oenanthe?

Oenanthe is a genus or subgroup of the plant family Apiaceae, a group of plants that include many spicy herbs and vegetables such as carrots, celery, fennel, anise and parsley. Oenanthe plants are often referred to the common name "Dropwort Water" because they prefer growing in damp, marshy areas. Many species of this family are poisonous to livestock, wild animals and people, especially O. Crocat, which is found wild in Europe, the Middle East and East Asia. The Oenanthe Javanica, on the other hand, is edible vegetables that are consumed in many parts of the world.

The name "Oenanthe" comes from Greek and describes the sweet scent of plants that are often said to smell like wine. In Greek means "oinos" "wine" and "anthos" means "flower". The general name "Dropwort Water" was given to this genus because many of its individual species are physically similar to the unrelated plant called Dropwort, which generally prefers to grow the conditions of cultivationdryers. Toxin occurs mostly in the stalks and roots of the plant, while its leaves are relatively harmless and are often consumed by livestock in grazing. Oenanthotoxin is a neurotoxin, which means it is a poison that attacks the central nervous system. The ingestion of the roots or stems of O. Crocata can lead to intense pain, muscle cramps, vomiting and often death.

This species is particularly dangerous because its appearance is quite similar to a number of plants that are commonly consumed as food. Its poisonous stems are strong and green and are strongly similar to celery. The plant also has tapering white roots that are described as looking like a white carrot or pastin. Cases of poisoning are often associated with a child or other unconscious man who intended a plant for an edible species. Livestock can be poisoned by random food of the roots of the plant that can be exposed to rainby water.

Related Oenanthe Javanica is an edible plant, also known by its common names Chinese celery or Japanese parsley. This species is a flowering plant with a long life that prefers growth in sunny and humid conditions. It has small, white or white flowers and strong green stems, which also resemble the flowers of ordinary celery. However, the taste is herbal, aromatic and is not different from parsley. Leaves and stems of this kind can be cooked and consumed as vegetables.
