What is the sea aster?

SEA Aster is a type of wild flowering plant, aster tripolium, , which is originally from the coastal regions of northern and western Europe, especially salt marshes and mouth. It is also located in some areas of Eastern North America. It has small, simple flowers that range from light purple to white or yellow, although some flowers are striped two or more of these colors. It is rarely grown as bed linen or garden plant due to the difficulties of reproducing its preferred cultivation conditions. Once she was considered poor food, consumed only at the time of famine, she has gained popularity as a food and appears in supermarkets in some parts of the world where it grows, especially in the UK.

In its native environment, the aster is low growing, herbal, permanent flower. It is classified as permanent because it lives after the first year, but is short -term and individual plants rarely last after three or four years. Each plant that can reach up to 3 feet (1 m) tall,It can have many flowers, each carrying individually at the end of short -term stems that grow in clusters at the end of larger stems. They have a look similar to Daisy with a yellow center surrounded by thin petals of light blue, purple, yellow or white. Some varieties may have more colors of beam petals.

These flowers grow along the ocean coast and in the areas of salt marshes and mouth. They can form large colonies and can tolerate and actually prefer, very wet and salty conditions, which makes them somewhat unsuitable as bed linen or garden plants. They bloom from the end of summer to early autumn and sometimes called "summer farewell" because they are one of the last flowers of the season in many areas, which also makes them an important source of late season food for several types of butterflies.

People have long known that long, thin and robust green leaves of the sea aster wereEdible and suddenly were considered low quality food consumed only by peasants and at the time of famine. However, they have gained popularity as a type of cooked greenery, and many are considered a delicacy and collected foragers. They are even found on supermarkets and farmers' markets, sold as a gourmet green. Sea Aster Greens is cooked before eating and usually prepared like other boiled green, either Saut and Eacuteed or steamed.
