What are polyphenols?
polyphenols are antioxidants in plants that many believe they have a significant number of health benefits. Among the best known are flavonoids, which are a group of several thousand individual compounds. These compounds are located together in many different foods, all contribute in a unique way to the overall health of the individual. Most often they are introduced into the body by eating fruits and vegetables. Each can be found from many different sources. For example, tannins are predominant in wines, tea and fruit. Almost every plant will have at least some of these polyphenols.
Polyphenols work by removing free radicals in the body that are known to cause a number of health problems. They are assumed to help prevent premature aging and help prevent cancer, among other things. Some such as Tanins may even have antibiotic benefits.
The effect of tannins can be seen in a number of different applications. It is a substance responsible for browning or tanning of the skin. FactThe group thus gained a group of chemicals. In some cases, it may not be beneficial at all depending on the compound and in fact they are quite harmful. This is especially true for certain types of tannins. Without further study, it is impossible to indicate the benefits of these compounds for any great degree of security.
In most of the medical community, however, the debate focuses on to what extent polyphenols benefit the person, not the question of whether they do.
