What Is a Competency Assessment?

Applied ability assessment is an assessment of a student's ability to apply principles to solving new problems. Bloom divides application skills into the following eight categories based on student behavior: (1) determine which principles are suitable for handling new difficult situations; (2) restate problems, and determine which principles are necessary to solve problems; (3) Determine the limits for the establishment of a particular principle; (4) Identify exceptions to a particular principle and explain the reasons; (5) Use appropriate principles to make predictions about what may happen in the new situation; (6) Use appropriate principles to determine Or recognize a particular action or decision-making process in a new situation; (7) use known principles to explain new phenomena; (8) explain the reason for applying one or more principles in a given difficult situation.
