What Are Cystine Stones?
Cystineuria (cystinuria) refers to a large amount of cystine in the urine. It is a relatively common genetic disease caused by a defect in renal tubular cystine transport. It can occur at any age and is more common in children. The disease is more prone to urinary stones, which are usually formed in the bladder. Clinical manifestations are renal colic, hematuria, fever, frequent urination, urgency and pain, and renal insufficiency. There is currently no cure for this disease, and symptomatic treatment is often used, mainly to prevent the formation of stones and its complications.
