What are the different types of genetically changed food?

Genetically changed foods are made of plants or animals that have changed deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in a way that naturally does not happen. Individual genes are often transmitted from one organism to another, although organisms are not related. Scientists manipulate genes and create two types of genetically changed foods: those that provide the advantage to the producer and those who provide consumers advantage. The characters that bring the advantage to the producer are insect resistance, viral resistance, increased yield or abbreviated time required to nature. Foods can be changed so that they are more attractive to customers by staying fresh longer or are to have greater nutritional or healing value. This allows the growth of genetically changed crops without having to compete for space, nutrients or light. This modification is commonly performed by soybeans and rapeseed. The Herbicide resistant gene is removed from bacteria and added to a genetically changed crop.

Another common change is the engineering of crops to emit toxins that kill pests. Sweet corn is a food that is commonly created in this way, which means that farmers do not have to spray their sweet corn insecticides because maize resists insects due to their borrowed genes. This genetically changed food is called BT corn, because the pest killing gene comes from the bacteria of bacillus thuringiensis . Potatoes are another example of genetically changed foods that produce insecticide.

other meals have been genetically changed to be more attractive to consumers. Strawberries, sweet peppers, bananas, pineapple and tomatoes were modified to remain fresh longer. Scientists also worked on engineering genetically altered food to be more nutrients. Gold rice is an example of this - the rice has been treated to add vitamin A. Scientists have worked on food production that have not only other nutrition but have a farmAceutic value such as vaccination.

The concept of genetically modified animals has met greater resistance than the concept of genetically modified plants. Many countries have approved the production and sale of genetically modified plants and at the same time required further research on genetically modified animals. One genetically modified animal that was considered to be approval in the United States is a genetically modified salmon. This salmon has an extra growth hormone gene, allowing them to grow twice as fast as the unmodified salmon.

Hard cheeses are another type of food that commonly used genetically modified organisms in production. The cheese is traditionally made with a rennet, an extract from the stomachs of cows. Enzymes used to produce cheese can be produced by genetically modified microorganisms. In the industry country, most hard cheeses use enzymes from these genetically modified microorganisms.
